Fotos For Friday

Glasgow 2014 has not even started yet, but the FM has been said to have already secured over £2 Billion in orders for Scotland. That is four times what we have invested in putting on Glasgow 2014.

That's a lot of jobs for Scotland.

Dave was in Shetland, although strangely Downing Street wouldn't confirm that he was. But no matter. He was politicking. He was accompanied by Godzilla, the Minister for Portsmouth, who has clearly moved up the ranks and is now bag carrier for Dave (he probably travelled economy). He it was who warned the Scottish government last week NOT to politick during the Commonwealth Games. Funny old world. Ordinary rules don't apply to Eton Toffs.

Let's be honest. With the Middle East blowing up around him, the Russia-Ukraine situation demanding attention, and what with him having all this clout in world affairs (big noise in the EU, G8, G20, Nato, World Bank, IMF, and a seat on the security council) Dave can hardly say he was in Shetland as part of his normal duties. After all it's 34 years since the last prime ministerial visit there. It was hardly urgent he get there this week.

Apparently he thanked the Shetland people for the economic contribution they make to his country (they couldn't afford nuclear weapons without Shetland's input, and said that he desperately wanted the UK to stay together, for he loved them with all his heart  and soul, even the little Shetland Pony. He took his tie off. A sure sign that he was getting down with ordinary everyday common folk who didn't go to Eton (see above).

He refused to take any questions from the press while he was there. Now, isn't that strange.

Apparently the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony producers asked the Ministry of Defence, which at that time would have been under the ministerial hand of Po Face Hammond of the British Virgin Islands, if the Red Arrows could please just use blue and white smoke in their flypast. The flag of the host nation is traditionally used and Scotland is the host nation.

The answer was no. And some old duffer at the MoD probably choked into his bowler hat at the very idea (which at least is a cheering thought).

The planes were due to fly past at the time that the Queen and Philip were entering the arena. Apparently the Queen only has red white and blue, being only the Queen of the UK. Not Australia, or New Zealand or Canada or Scotland or Jersey or Gibraltar or anywhere else, just red white and blue.

So we had to have another bit of Union Jack waving at the games. NO politicking though, otherwise Godzilla Carmichael would be cross with them and you really wouldn't want to get Godzilla cross. Look what happened when Nicola bullied him!.

Cameron also gave a speech at Glasgow University. It was attended by a few people, who were probably especially invited so there would be no chance of anyone telling him to bugger off home. Some of the invited few presumably had better things to do on a warm day and there were empty chairs all around. Still the Tories are used to that in Scotland.

**************
One of the Tories’ biggest donors and a major contributor to the Scottish “No” campaign runs a vast oil-trading company which has potentially avoided UK corporate taxes on billions of pounds of profit with the blessing of the tax man, according to this newspaper report.

So, they are fighting our freedom with money which by rights is owed to the taxman, and which might have helped pay down the £1.5 trillion of debt the UK has.

Nah, much better spend it on telling lies about how bad life would be in an independent oil rich country with massive tourism, energy, water and intellectual, etc, etc, etc... reserves, so that they can hang on to them.

TEASER!

The Caledonia song will be released on Sunday.

I'll post all the links then so you can listen to it, and hopefully buy a copy from iTunes or Amazon.

All money received from sales is going to help food banks. It's a great song and a great cause. I've been in touch with my local food bank and made them aware of it too. I hope together we can help the lads make a difference to starving kids.

    1. Ahhh... didn't know that Anon. Thanks.

I thought it was Po Face Hammond, that long streak of misery that banned it, but apparently it was this new man who apparently is called Fallon or something. No idea who or what he is. Just imagine that he was a bit proud of himself and decided to throw his weight about.

As I said over on Twitter...who cares. it only smoke pouring out of the backside of a plane. What matters is people being hungry, and people unable to pay their rent or their electricity bills.

Thats what matters. Failed-one is just a wee prat of a Tory thinking he's something special. He'll soon be disabused of that. The MoD has defeated better men than him to be a byword in inefficiency!

    2. Nice Picture of an event in 2009 where they flew Scotland's colours on Wings today.

    3. Yes, which kinda makes Fallon's decision a bit bloody petty. But Craig have given us the low down on him. I think we have his number.

The man who sings "Tomorrow belongs to me"!

  3. I now have the pic of the women in distress over the oil.

Brilliant and gets to the point.

As for the PM visiting , where is everyone. We see YES debates packed to the rafters in even the smallest and remotest places. I would guess that the crowd were invited of course but i wish i had sneaked in to ask "cal me Dave" a few questions regarding his avoiding a debate with our FM.

Then again i have more chance of winning the lottery and i don't even buy the tickets.

Thanks for the new screen saver Tris. Copies and sent of to my friends on facetube and Google +

P.S. Tris over a thousand hits in24 hours for the song "Caledonia"

Cannot thank you and all Munguinies for your incredible support.

    1. Nice one Richy.

I love the way you guys are distributing the stuff around the net.

it's all good. I know most of it is preaching to the converted, but there's always the chance that someone's looking over your shoulder and seeing something that makes them stop and think.

Great news for the lads with Caledonia.

      Come Sunday, lets get buying.

    2. Thanks Richy, will be purchasing for the Husband, he of the music. I am a woman with the words but he will put it on his wee music player for me to listen in the car.

  4. Tris

I know Fallon. He was an ultra ultra Thatcherite - as far right as they come. He and his Tory cronies at parties used to sing "Tomorrow belongs to me", they thought that was funny

Mind if I use your Cameron photo?

    1. Hi Craig.

He sounds pretty revolting, but then you must have met a fair number of revolting characters in your time in Whitehall. I think he will be a dangerous defence secretary.

Incidentally I found a picture on Twitter showing the Red Arrows doing a smoke display in Red and White of the English flag.

Of course you can use the Cameron photo. It's not mine. I found it on the net.

  5. sorry should have said the parties and singing were at St Andrews university - an institution we pay for and only admits 20% of its undergraduates from Scotland

    1. Yes a totally weird situation and given its funding source, welcome as our foreign visitors are, I wish that they would relook at their admissions policy and , if necessary, be encouraged to so do, by the Cabinet Secretary..

That said, if I were embarking on a degree now, I'd rather go to Edinburgh or Glasgow than St A. Come to that Dundee's not a bad place either!!

  6. Just said on Wings about Hypocrisy and that the BT and English Establishment not knowing the meaning, I imagine if oor Alex said one word he would be imitating Hitler as per the 1936 Olympics whilst of course they can make comments, heard on GMTV this morning. "England are leading the Medal Tables, but we have to mention Scotland had a good day yesterday, or we will get loads of complaints." Patronising Gits. Hope the Londoners will adore the wee demonstration on Sunday. Somehow I doubt they will be out in the Sun that day.

    1. What a bore having to mention Scotland. How irritating. They should probably mention Wales and Northern Ireland too. It might be nice if they actually covered the whole thing and mentioned any of the other countries that are sending people to these freedom games.

But , in fairness, they are English, based in England and they support England. There is nothing actually wrong with that.

What IS wrong is that they are OUR media, without actually being our media.

Personally I wish the best of luck to every country which is participating in the Games. I don't care who comes out on top. I just hope there will be some good sport and that people will see our country in a good light and want to come back, or if they are watching on TV from Australia or India or Nigeria, or Guernsey, or wherever, they will want to visit.

I no longer watch any of the crap they put out on tv. I don't have a blood pressure problem; I don't want to encourage one!!

    2. PS: The first medal went to an English participant. I noticed that the First Minister tweeted a congratulations to the winner. I suspect that the media will have missed that.

    3. I imagine Alex would, he is that sort of person. Oh and I am certain that the MSM will not say one little word.
You are quite right not to watch television, I normally catch the odd word as I am acting as body servant to the dog, and breakfast maker to the husband and dog.

  7. Surely the Commonwealth Games show that Glasgow and indeed Scotland has what it takes to cut it, Westminster contributed zero to the games, not even a blue and white fly by of the Red Arrows. As for David Cameron, no ones listening to him except his hand picked acolytes

    1. Yes, it sticks in the craw a bit for me that whilst we all had to fork out for the London Games, the Commonwealth Games are down to us alone.

I thought it was cities, not countries that hosted these things. I suppose they have become too expensive now for individual cities to pay for them, so Glasgow, which benefits the most, is contributing 20% and Scotland 80%.

In fairness we should remember that if we are pulling in billions in business, we have all benefited from these games.

  8. Sorry, guys and gals, having witnessed the Red Arrows spewing red, white and blue and, even better, Gary Lineker, I have decided to join Niko in the NO camp. I wonder how many others decided to vote No as a result? Where was Alan Hansen?

    1. I feared this would happen.

And I have no doubt that you will be the first of a flood of people who have been convinced by two faced flags, the comforting tones of Clare Balding and the touching scene of the Red White and Blue Arrows acting on the command of the new defence secretary (or we should probably correctly refer to him as the defense secretary, given that he takes his orders from Washington, DC).

I noticed a tear in Munguin's furry little eyes as it was all happening. He got on his hind paws and sang Rile Britannia, with all his little heart. (I'd have told him it was "Rule", but you don't correct a Munguin, when he pays your wages. Last week at this time the little soul was singing "Vile Britannia". That shows the change that has come over him.)

I just hope that tomorrow's release of Caledonia will get him back on the right paw and he will open that purse of his for the first time this year, and stump up for a copy!

In the meantime. Thank you for your support. I have a feeling that Niko will welcome a friendly face in his cold dark cellar.

I wonder who amongst you will be the next.

    2. Well John, I feel quite patronised enough thank you with the whole of the News Team up here, this morning it was fancy coming from New Zealand in the Winter to Scotland for the Sun. Yesterday on GMTV it was, we better mention the Scots or we will get inundated with complaints. I wonder if they will have the blinds open on Sunday?

      Delete
    3. Em John, the answer is No, I would not join Niko in anything not even out of mild interest. Now I wonder how many folk are being swung to YES given that NO have not kept their word and are continuing to play politics.

    4. John Brownlie, although I respect your decision whatever way you vote, deciding to vote no because of the Red Arrows fly by, is a bit like supporting Israel over Palestine because, Israel has a shiny blue star on its flag, more disturbing though, is voting no, because of Gary Lineker.

    5. It's really because he wants to vote the same way as his lifelong soul mate, Niko. The arrows is just an excuse!

    1. Good one CH, I loved the wee smiley face. Now I was looking into the Jewellers here in Dunfermline the other Saturday, full of trinkets and trinket boxes of a similar hew, all at bargain prices. I suggested I go and buy some to do what I did to a friend's union flag mug, accidentally, he says on purpose, break em down to their constituent parts.
