FOTOS ON FRIDAY... 'PRIVATISATION OF POST' AND 'BEDROOM TAX'

SO FIRST THERE IS THIS ODIOUS ANNOUNCEMENT FROM SAINT VINCE...

...and Labour needn't get bent out of shape about it. Peter Mandelson did his damnedest to do exactly what Vince the Tory is doing.
So, it's all looking positive and popular there...

Scotland won't do it
**************************************************

AND THEN THERE'S GRANT SCHWEPPES or something...

...who apparently intends writing to the Secretary General of the UN, demanding an apology from him about "some Brazilian" having the temerity to lecture British ministers, the insufferably pompous little arse.
OK, I know it isn't directly to do with either of today's topics, but I thought it was hilarious

  1. Well I for one am furious about denationalisation of our royal mail...

    1. Sign the petition Dean. Not that the government will be in the least interested in what we think.

Scotland would keep the nationalised service. I don't think there can be any doubt about that. Labour and the SNP in Scotland are against selling it. I imagine the Greens are too. The Tories and the Liberals may be for, but they represent a tiny proportion of votes in the Scottish parliament.

  2. Going by past Better Together scaremongering stories I'm expecting a new scare story any day now from BTHQ that the Royal Mail in an Independent Scotland will be privatised!

    1. Yep, or it will cost £5 to post a letter and Scots are too stupid to run their own post offices and who would make our stamps, and ....

    2. I think they did that one as part of the 'famous 500'.

Privatise the BBC and leave the mail alone.

    4. Hummmm... don't think that's gonna happen CH. They need the BBC to be behoven to them living fom one licence fee hike to the next.

I can understand state broadcasters;several countries have them. What I can't understand is one that covers so many channels on tv and radio.

One national channel is all that is required, and one national channel for radio. The rest is quite capable of being privatised and paid for by those who watch or listen to it.

Alternatively, it should not beyond the wit of modern technology to produce sets that do not pick up BBC, for those who wish to watch Sky Sports or STV without having to pay £145 a year for this overblown bunch of thieves and weirdos.

    5. Arbroath...frankly I wish they would stop doing news here altogether. They just produce propaganda for No Scotland.

    1. 356. Will a separate Scotland have a Universal Service Obligation (USO) which guarantees:
      357. At least one delivery of letters every Monday to Saturday to every address in the UK?
      358. At least one collection of letters every Monday to Saturday from every access point in the UK that is used to receive letters and postal packets for onward transmission?
      359. Postal services at an affordable, uniform tariff across the UK?
      360. A registered items service at an affordable public tariff?
      361. An insured items service at an affordable public tariff?
      362. A free-of-charge postal service to blind or partially sighted people?
      363. And free carriage of legislative petitions and addresses?

OMG what a bloody joke. Will a privatised postal service guarantee any of these things beyond the first year?

  6. OK, I know it's Friday the 13th but really couldn't miss pass this over to you Tris.

I have not read the whole piece myself yet, I couldn't get much past the first few 'pointers.' Try and hold your laughter down to a dull roar Tris especially after reading point 1 which I'll post here.

Scotland will not be called Scotland if independence occurred. The name ‘Scotland’ is owned by the British state.

Cameron and Osborne both said they are setting the Royal Mail free
    reminds thinking people of

    Arbeit macht frei

In The Kingdom of Auschwitz, Otto Friedrich wrote regarding Höss:

He seems not to have intended it as a mockery, nor even to have intended it literally, as a false promise that those who worked to exhaustion would eventually be released, but rather as a kind of mystical declaration that self-sacrifice in the form of endless labour does in itself bring a kind of spiritual freedom

Cameron and Osborne to a tee

    1. Setting it free, to ensure that in a short time the directors and shareholders won't be satisfied to make the small amount, and so people in remote areas will no longer get a delivery every day...or possibly at all.

Then there will be no delivery on Saturdays for anyone; then maybe only one delivery every two days out of major towns like London and Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool.

It will cost more to send your mail farther... and if it has to go to the islands....

I'm not sure Camerarse and Osbutt would understand most of that. I think they simply think that lower orders aren't actually quite the same species as them... and therefore matter about as much as farm animals.

    2. No matter what happens Tris one thing is guaranteed, which is that it will be the rural postal services that will demolished first.

    3. Have you looked at your timestamps? Tardis!

      Nearly extinct.

      Delete
    4. yes, Arbroath. Rural postal services cost a fortune. QWe all subsidise them, which, in my opinion is fair enough.

But it won't be enough for the private sector...

So the prices will have to go up, or deliveries restricted ... or the companies will give up on them and the government will have to step in and deliver the mail.

However, a Labour source has told BBC Scotland that Ms Baillie has "gone a bit too far".

    2. Hmm, is this Jackie Baillie really attacking her London leadership?

I wonder how Milliband and co are going to deal with this frontal assault on Labour?

Any one up for another Labour front bench reshuffle, after Milliband has told Lamont what to do of course, which may take some time unfortunately due to her constant love of searching out wee hideaway cubby holes to hide in!

She added: "Labour has consistently said that the 'Bedroom Tax' is as cruel as it is incompetent, and there is a real danger it is so badly thought through that it could actually end up costing more than it saves.

Don't forget folks it was LABOUR under the magnificence of Gordon Brown who introduced the Bedroom Tax to Britain, specifically to those living in private rented accommodation. The only thing that Cameron has done is to widen the net to cover social housing as well.

    5. Dean from that reading Labour has not said they would abolish it.

Jackie Baillie has said that they will and Anas Sarwar has said that they will but the first paragraph there says it all:

"Labour has said it has not pledged to reverse housing benefit changes, after a suggestion from the party's Scottish welfare spokeswoman that it will."

    Come gather ’round people
    Wherever you roam
    And admit that the waters
    Around you have grown
    And accept it that soon
You’ll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth savin’
Then you better start swimmin’ or you’ll sink like a stone
